Unstoppable Domains drops $2 million plan to bring .crypto and .bitcoin to standard internet

Unstoppable Domains has abandoned a plan to spend up to $2 million to acquire the .crypto and .bitcoin top-level domains and fold them into the conventional DNS. The company will not pursue the ICANN auction pathway that would have converted those blockchain-native names into standard internet TLDs. As a result, .crypto and .bitcoin will remain outside the traditional DNS ecosystem, keeping current blockchain-based resolution in place. For Bitcoin, this reduces near-term prospects for broader browser and web integration of human-readable .bitcoin addresses, preserving usability frictions but avoiding the centralization and regulatory questions that DNS integration would have raised.
